How accurately does the media report research?

Is media reporting of medical research distorting the science behind the stories? An open meeting on Monday 15 June in the School of Medical Sciences will look at how medical research goes from scientific papers to the stories we read every day.

Keynote speeches will be given by Professor Andy Grieve, Health and Social Care Research, School of Medicine, King's College, London; Professor David Spiegelhalter, Medical Research Council Biostatistics Unit and University of Cambridge; and Dr Ben Goldacre, author, broadcaster and doctor who writes the weekly Bad Science column in The Guardian.

Organised by the Royal Statistical Society through its General Applications and Medical Sections, the meeting is sponsored by the Clinical Trials and Evaluation Unit, Bristol Heart Institute and the Department of Social Medicine, University of Bristol.
