Two Bristol students are winners of the prestigious 2008 Science, Engineering and Technology Student of the Year Awards.

Two Bristol students are winners of the 2008 Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Student of the Year Awards, presented at a prestigious ceremony in late September at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel attended by more than 500 students, academics and business leaders.

Philip Ewels from the Department of Biochemistry for ‘The role of sorting nexin-1 in Salmonella invasion’ (The AstraZeneca Award for the Best Biology or Biotechnology Student, judged by the Institute of Biology);

Niall Oswald from the Department of Electronic Engineering for a ‘"More-Electric" Formula 1 Gearbox' (The e2v Award for the Best Electronic Engineering Student, judged by the Institution of Engineering and Technology). You can read more about this project in a separate news item.

Two other Bristol undergraduates were shortlisted in their categories:

Ben Truscott from the School of Chemistry (The 3M Award for the Best Chemistry Student, judged by the Royal Society of Chemistry);

Jason Mayes from the Department of Computer Science (The IET Award for the Best IT Student, judged by the Institution of Engineering and Technology).
