Alexander Technique and back pain: advice for staff

30 September 2008

The University is hosting a short series of free advice sessions introducing the Alexander Technique to mark International Alexander Awareness Week and Back Care Awareness Week, which both run from 6-12 October.

To mark both International Alexander Awareness Week and Back Care Awareness Week (6-12 October), the University is hosting a short series of free advice sessions presented by a registered Alexander Technique (AT) teacher, Bethan Evans, and colleagues.

‘In light of the recent research on the effectiveness of AT for lower back pain carried out by Bristol and Southampton Universities, I and some colleagues will be helping to raise awareness at the University during the week,’ said Evans, a professional member of the charity BackCare.

The Alexander Technique can help with all aspects of life, not just back pain; it can also help with RSI, stress and general fitness.

Bethan Evans and her colleagues will be available to chat and answer questions at the following times and venues:

Monday 6 October 10am-3pm
Lecture Theatre, Indoor Sports Centre, Tyndall Avenue

Tuesday 7 October 1-3pm
Foyer of the Victoria Rooms

Wednesday 8 October 11am-3pm
Foyer of the Victoria Rooms
