A Bristol based company that designs and implements advanced communication and management solutions for the NHS has announced significant new appointments to strengthen its growing team.

Founded in 2007 by doctors, Jonathan Bloor and Jonathan Shaw, DocCom Solutions is a spin out from University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (formerly UBHT).

The company develop advanced web and database applications, providing new and innovative solutions to enhance the communication with, and training and management of, junior doctors within the NHS. Within two years DocCom has successfully implemented a system for the Severn Deanery – the NHS organisation responsible for the training of doctors in the region.

As a rapidly growing company, DocCom has invited south west businessman Nick Buckland to become its Non-Executive Chairman. Nick holds a number of public and private sector board appointments, including the South West Regional Development Agency (where he was former Deputy Chairman) and the Technology Strategy Board – a national body with a £1 billion budget to develop collaborative research and development activity between academia and industry.

Mr Buckland said: “I first became aware of DocCom and the two Jonathans earlier this year.  Having looked at their business plan and recognised the important gap in the market that their solutions fill, I was keen to see how they develop and to help them in anyway that I could.

“I am delighted that they have asked me to assist them in growing DocCom – we are already in discussion with a number of funders for the next round of investment and our prospect list of clients is looking strong.”

DocCom has also announced the appointment of Richard Rock-Evans as an Executive Director.  Mr Rock-Evans will take responsibility for finance and business planning.

Nick Sturge, Director of the Bristol SETsquared Centre, said: “DocCom is a great business and this appointment shows how the founders understand the benefit of getting high quality directors on their Board.”

DocCom are one of a number of ventures from the medical and healthcare sectors that reside within the SETsquared Business Acceleration Centre.

Earlier this year, DocCom won £10,000 in the University of Bristol’s Enterprise Competition and the work on their pilot system was nominated for an NHS Health and Social Care Award.
