The award was presented by the Special Interest Research Group Parents and Parenting with Intellectual Disabilities, a special interest group of the IASSID comprising academics from around the world who are undertaking research about parents with intellectual disabilities. The award was presented at the meeting of the special interest group in Cape Town, South Africa, during this year’s IASSID conference in August.

Beth Tarleton said: ‘I was delighted to receive the award, as it recognises the importance of the work of the Norah Fry Research Centre in influencing the support available for parents with learning difficulties. This work includes the Centre’s report, Finding the right support, which was published in 2006 and maps the different types of support services available for parents with learning difficulties, as well as subsequent work developing the Working Together with Parents network. This supports the development of positive practice and appropriate policies in this area.’
