Bristol universities get together for football showdown

Bristol University and the University of the West of England will battle it out for football honours in the Football Varsity match, which takes place tomorrow [Wednesday 12 March] at Manor Farm FC.

Bristol University and the University of the West of England will battle it out for football honours in the Football Varsity match, which takes place tomorrow [Wednesday 12 March] at Manor Farm FC.

The Football Varsity match has been an annual event for both the University of Bristol and the University of West of England for the past seven years. Proceeds from the match will go to local charities.

Tom Noble, Athletic Union (AU) Chair, Bristol University, said: “The Football Varsity is a fantastic event and provides a great opportunity to showcase the sporting calibre of the two Bristol universities. The ‘Creek’ is the sort of ground that allows you as a spectator to be right on top of the action, guaranteeing a terrific atmosphere.”

There will be a free coach service to the match (only) from Churchill, Stoke Bishop leaving at 5 pm and the Bristol University Students’ Union, Queens Road at 5.30 pm.

Tickets cost £4 in advance and are available from members of both university football clubs, the Athletic Union office, Students’ Union, Queens Road, and the Union shops in Queen’s Road and Stoke Bishop. Tickets can also be bought on the day at the turnstiles costing £5.

The Football Varsity match between the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England takes place at Manor Farm FC, The Creek, Portway, Bristol. BS9 2HS. Gates open at 5 pm with the first match starting at 6 pm.
