Press release issued: 5 March 2008

Robert Fisk, the Middle East correspondent for The Independent and known worldwide for his frank and honest reporting, will be speaking in April [Saturday, 5] about Iraq, the Middle East, its wars, dictators and international relations.

The Middle East is the topic of a talk in Bristol next month by a prominent author and journalist.

Robert Fisk, the Middle East correspondent for The Independent and known worldwide for his frank and honest reporting, will be speaking in April [Saturday, 5] about Iraq, the Middle East, its wars, dictators and international relations.

Robert was won many awards for his journalism, which is based on extensive knowledge, experience and contacts.  His articles provide an essential guide to international politics and have a huge following.

Robert’s talk follows the successful talk by Senator Barack Obama’s foreign policy adviser, Samantha Power.

Samantha spoke at the Watershed Media Centre yesterday [Tuesday, March 4] about her forthcoming book, Chasing the flame.

Chasing the flame is a political biography of the United Nation’s (UN) Sergio Vieira de Mello, a humanitarian, peacemaker and state builder.  Sergio died in a terrorist attack on the UN headquarters in Iraq in 2003, at the beginning of one of the thorniest episodes of recent world history, the Second Gulf War.

Bristol University’s Professor Amitav Acharya, Director of the Centre for Governance and International Affairs said: “This promises to be a fascinating talk with an opportunity for members of the public to meet a well-known author and journalist.”

The talk is organised jointly by the University of Bristol’s Centre for Governance and International Affairs, Department of Politics and the Festival of Ideas.

Robert Fisk’s talk will take place on Saturday, 5 April from 11 am to 12.30 pm at St George’s Bristol, Great George Street, Bristol.  Tickets are priced at £6 and £4.  To book tickets contact St George’s Bristol on tel 0845 40 24 001 or visit in person.
