The University has extended eligibility for its bursary schemes and increased its investment in outreach work. All new UK undergraduate students starting their studies in October 2008, with a household income of £50,000 or less, and in receipt of a Government maintenance grant, will be eligible for a non-repayable bursary from the University of Bristol. This increase from our present income threshold of approximately £38,000 will provide even more students with a bursary from the University. This support is in addition to any Government funding for which they may be eligible.
The table below shows how much a student is likely to receive:

The University will continue to provide a bursary scheme for local students. Students in receipt of a University bursary, as stated above, and who are resident in the BA or BS postal code area at the time of their UCAS application, will receive an additional sum of £1,050 per year.
Hardship funds totalling around £160,000 will also be available for those students who may find themselves in financial difficulties, through no fault of their own, while on their programme of study.
Investment in outreach work will be increased from £400,000 to over £600,000 to enable us to encourage as wide a range of able students as possible to apply for and accept places at Bristol.
