The Community Sports Volunteer Scheme: pass on your passion

13 October 2006

The Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health offers students and staff the opportunity to become involved in the Community Sports Volunteer Scheme.

Community Sport initiatives rely on volunteers; enthusiastic and qualified individuals are desperately needed as coaches, leaders and mentors.

The Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health (CSEH) offers students and staff at Bristol the opportunity to become involved in the Community Sports Volunteer Scheme (CSVS). Aims and benefits of the Scheme:

For students and staff

  • Develop a wider social perspective; enhance skills; gain qualifications, confidence and experience.
  • Gain a nationally recognised qualification: Community Sports Leader Award
  • Training in First Aid for Sport and Child Protection
  • Training modules in organisational skills, safety in sport, fitness in sport, events and competitions, improvisation and adapted games, games and activity experience.
  • Opportunity to gain a coaching qualification through a National Governing Body.
  • Practical experience of working with local community schools, clubs and sporting events.

For the community

CSVS provides qualified, passionate volunteers to a variety of after-school clubs, sports projects and events. This increases participation opportunities and positive experiences for young people in local areas.

For the University

The Scheme enhances links between CSEH and local communities, supporting the Centre’s aim to promote participation in sport and healthy activity for the whole community and to contribute to the University’s Widening Participation Strategy.

This year’s Community Sports Volunteer Scheme begins on Thursday 26 October; the application deadline is Tuesday 17th October. Every year the course is oversubscribed, and there are only 40 placements available.
