A new dance has been especially created for Bristol University's Botanic Gardens. It has been choreographed around some of the beautiful features of this site and is a unique opportunity to see some of the unusual and exotic plants being interpreted in this way.

The event, Dancing in the Botanic Gardens on Friday, June 18, will go ahead whatever the weather and guests will walk between different locations within the Garden to view performances. The performance is the first in a series of dances being made for botanic and historic gardens around England. The scheme also has a link to medicine and an interest in observing and researching the relationships between people and plants.

The performers for this piece are all Bristolians. They are professional dancers and artists working in the city and further afield, and several of them are also keen amateur gardeners.

The choreographer and director, Alex Howard, has been working in contemporary dance for many years and has created over 25 dances for theatres and for outdoor sites. She has created and directed dance projects in Hong Kong, France and England and has taught dance and movement to a wide range of people.

A bar serving wine and soft drinks will be available.

Dancing in the Botanic Gardens will take place on Friday, June 18 at 7 pm.

The Botanic Garden is on a secluded site just outside the City of Bristol near the edge of the Avon Gorge. The living plant collection includes over 1,120 genera and 4,500 species from many different parts of the world.
