Bristol University’s Botanic Garden will be holding a Summer Jazz Evening next month [Saturday, July 24].
The Blue Note Jazz Band, fronted by Hannah Wedlock and led by Roger Bennett, will play during the evening and there will be a bar and raffle.
Bring your own picnic, cushion, and umbrella if wet, and enjoy the garden at its best. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Friends of the Botanic Garden, a registered charity set up to support the Botanic Garden and its work.
Tickets priced £8 are available in advance by telephoning John Leach on (01275) 854992 or by sending a cheque made payable to Friends of Bristol University Botanic Garden, together with an A5 SAE, marked Summer Jazz Evening, to University of Bristol Botanic Garden, Bracken Hill, North Road, Leigh Woods, Bristol BS8 3PF.
The Summer Jazz Evening will take place on Saturday, July 24. The garden will be open from 4 pm and the evening will start at 7 pm and finish at
9.30 pm.
The University’s Botanic Garden is due to move from its current site at Bracken Hill. The garden is still open to members of the public, for the foreseeable future, from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, closed weekends and public holidays. Entrance is free.
The Botanic Garden, which holds 4,500 or so different plant species from around the world, specialises in specimens from Northern Europe, South Africa and New Zealand, and contains a conservation collection of threatened species of the SW peninsula of England. There are many examples of crop plants, particularly those from tropical parts of the world. There is also a comprehensive collection of herbs and plants used in complementary medicine, including a Chinese Medicinal Garden. The garden is listed as Grade 2 in the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.
