Christmas at the City Museum & Art Gallery

Press release issued: 3 December 2003

The Bristol Magpies will be holding their annual Christmas Fair from 10.30 am to 4 pm on Saturday, December 6, at the City Museum & Art Gallery, Queen's Road.

The Bristol Magpies, one of the supporter groups for Bristol Museums & Art Gallery, will be holding their annual Christmas Fair from 10.30 am to 4 pm on Saturday, December 6, at the City Museum & Art Gallery, Queen’s Road.

The Fair is being ‘masterminded’ by Rosemary Musgrave and Rose Silvester from Bristol University’s School of Chemistry.  Commenting on the fair, they said: “Joining Bristol Magpies and getting involved with the Museum has really made us appreciate what fantastic collections we have in Bristol. The Fair is very much a team effort.  A lot of Magpies and Museum staff are working hard to make sure it’s a success - but we have fun too!”

Christmas gifts, books, homemade cakes, jams, chutneys and pickles, and many other items will be for sale. There will also be the chance to see and buy Christmas crafts.  Printmaker Trevor Hadrell, jeweller Carole Lockwood and artist Lucy King will be on hand with plenty of unique gift ideas for Christmas.

There will be more festive fun at lunchtime with a short concert of Christmas music, courtesy of the Bristol University Madrigal Ensemble.

The Magpies will also be selling Christmas raffle tickets, offering visitors the chance to win great prizes, including a print by John Stops RWA.

The fair is free and everyone is welcome.  All proceeds from the Christmas Fair will go towards buying new objects for the city’s collections.
