Three hundred university leaders from 45 European countries will gather in Bristol on March 28 and 29 for a major conference focusing on the future of research and the links between research and higher education across Europe.

The event, organised by the European University Association in partnership with the University of Bristol, will highlight the role of universities in the creation of a globally competitive Europe of Knowledge.

Among the topics to be considered are the interplay between national and regional priorities and research and research-training priorities. The links between teaching and research will be a further major subject of discussion.

Professor Sir David King, Chief Scientific Adviser to HM Government and Head of the Office of Science and Technology, will be among those addressing the conference. Other keynote speeches will be given by delegates from the European Commission and from universities in the UK and the rest of Europe.
