St Mary Redcliffe Church Choral Scholarships

Choral scholarships for altos (male or female), tenors and basses
There is a strong and thriving choral tradition at this historic church where scholarships of £1000 per annum (payable in two instalments) are available by short audition. These scholarships are open to undergraduate or postgraduate students at Bristol University, studying any subject. The award is renewable annually, normally for a maximum of three years, but dependent on the distribution of the alto, tenor and bass parts within the choir and our recruitment needs.

The altos, tenors and basses form the ‘back row’ for both the choir of boys and the choir of girls. There are no vacancies for soprano choral scholars, as our top lines are covered by the boys and girls.

A wide repertoire spanning 500 years of the best of Anglican Music is sung, so good sight-reading skills are essential. There are Cathedral visits, concerts and social events during the year. Practices are every Friday night from 7pm to 8.20pm. There are three Sunday Services: Sung Eucharist 9.30am, Choral Mattins 11.15am, Choral Evensong 6.30pm. Choral Scholar duties are in alignment with university terms (c.30 weeks per year)

If you would like to audition, please contact the Director of Music, Andrew Kirk on (0117) 231 0065 or email: andrew.kirk@stmaryredcliffe.co.uk.

The church can be found 3 minutes walk from Temple Meads Station, on Redcliffe Way at the south-east corner of Queen Square. Further information about the church in general is available from the St. Mary Redcliffe church website.
