- The Human Rights Implementation Centre hosted Fiona Batt on Tuesday 21st November 2023 to present a talk entitled: "The repatriation of cultural heritage : challenges and solutions".

Bio
Fiona Batt is an independent human rights consultant with a PhD from the University of Bristol. Fiona is presently assisting communities and museums through research and advice on the repatriation of their cultural heritage. Additionally she is a visiting scholar of the Human Rights Implementation Centre working with Human Rights Clinic students under the, Repatriation of Cultural Heritage Division. Previously she was a lecturer in international public law and human rights in Tanzania and has lectured in the Gambia. She has also held associate Dean and acting Dean positions in Tanzania and the Gambia. Her published monograph by Routledge examines the legal framework concerning the repatriation of ancient indigenous human remains. Further her article, "The repatriation of African heritage: shutting the door on the imperialist narrative", broadly focuses on African cultural heritage.

- The HRIC together with the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria submitted a further amicus brief to the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights. This was with respect to App.006/2012 regarding the rights of the Ogiek people in Kenya after the government started to evict them from their ancestral lands in contravention of the reparations judgment adopted by the Court in 2022 

- The HRIC with various partners made a submission to the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture in their call on "Current issues and good practices in prison management": Submission Finer Addo HRIC APCOF Omega (Office document, 121kB).
