Why did you choose Bristol for your BSc?

“Bristol is an incredible city with so much to see and do. There is a vast range of art, cultural and green spaces which means there are always new things to explore! The course structure of Biomedical Sciences BSc really appealed to me, with the flexibility to pick your modules as you progress through your degree. I wanted to gain an understanding of human health and disease and the broad common first year allowed me to study a range of units and decide which ones I enjoyed the most. Staff at Bristol University are internationally renowned academics who are experts in their fields and the opportunity to complete practical laboratory work under their supervision was a privilege. My university experience at Bristol was outstanding as a result of amazing academic opportunities and a fantastic personal experience!”

How would you sum up your experience?

“Studying Biomedical Sciences at Bristol was incredible. I learnt so much and developed my critical, analytical and laboratory skills throughout the three years. My degree was delivered by the highest quality lecturers who were passionate about their field of work which both challenged and inspired me. Biomedical Sciences at Bristol stimulated me to think in new ways and offered me the opportunity to learn about areas of human health I was particularly interested in.”

What were the staff like?

“The staff were incredibly kind, friendly and supportive throughout. My personal tutor was amazing and was always on hand to answer any questions as well as lend a supportive ear. (thank you, Ann!) I really appreciated the regular check-ins throughout the three years. Lecturers were approachable and happy to talk through any content you were unsure of outside of the lecture theatre, promoting a love of learning and demonstrating their enthusiasm for their field of research.”

How did your degree influence what you went on to next?

“I completed Teach First through UCL and am currently Head of Key Stage 3 Science at my School. This involves organising the Science curriculum and schemes of work for students as well as analysing data to assess the progress students are making. In addition to this, I am currently developing the A level Biology curriculum as part of our school development plan. My degree has equipped me with the necessary skills to think critically and analyse information which will be beneficial to me as I begin a Masters in Educational Leadership starting in September 2022.”

What advice would you offer to students contemplating a place at Bristol?

“Bristol is one of the friendliest, vibrant and exciting cities in the UK. There is something incredible about the atmosphere at the university and in the wider city that cannot be found anywhere else! I had the best three years and cannot recommend it enough. The Biomedical Sciences BSc course structure offers you the flexibility to explore a range of different aspects of human health and disease before deciding which areas you are most interested in. Staff are friendly, enthusiastic and leaders in their field. I would definitely recommend applying!”
