First of the major construction activities are about to start at Senate House

8 August 2019

Work continues in Senate House to build the new food court and first of the major construction activities are about to start.

Woodland Road, pavement closure, 14 August

To maximise pedestrian safety as traffic moves onto and offsite, and to avoid removing trees and part of the hedgerow, a section of pavement on Woodland Road, in front of the courtyard, will close in tandem with the St Michael’s Park road closure, from 14 August – summer 2020.

A new traffic light-controlled crossing will provide a safe route for pedestrians to cross Woodland Road and use the pavement adjacent to the Hawthorns. The existing zebra crossing at the Woodland Road / Elton Road / Tyndall Avenue junction will stay open.

Laying the foundations in Senate House, end August

The Senate House extension foundations will be formed by piling, which has been scheduled for three weeks from the end of August. During this time there will be some disruption as the team install 50+ piles ranging in depth from 5 – 15 metres.

Construction will take place between 8am and 4pm, so if you are working in the Hawthorns, or in nearby buildings on Woodland Road, please bear with us. Alternative meeting space is available elsewhere on our estate during a time when many in our community are away.

We will keeping posting regular updates here to aim to keep you informed about what’s happening when.
