• Global health research on the map at University of Bristol 13 February 2020 University of Bristol Professor, Helen Lambert, has been appointed UKRI Challenge Leader for Global Health, putting the University on the map with global health research. Helen Lambert is also Co-lead for the new Elizabeth Blackwell Institute Global Public Health interdisciplinary research strand.
  • Global Public Health research strand launches 10 February 2020 The new Elizabeth Blackwell Institute Global Public Health research strand held its official launch event on 5 February, with over 40 researchers working in global public health coming together to present and discuss their work. The event provided a networking opportunity and a chance for leaders in this field to develop research ideas and new collaborations.

  • Mental health and poverty 30 January 2020 On 16 January the Bristol Poverty Institute (BPI) and Elizabeth Blackwell Institute ran a seminar on mental health and poverty as part of the BPI’s interdisciplinary lunchtime seminar series, focusing on broad themes relevant to poverty research which can be explored from a variety of different perspectives.
  • Valuing Elizabeth Blackwell 23 January 2020 Elizabeth Blackwell obtained her medical degree on 23 January 1849, becoming the first ever female doctor. Over 170 years later as many women as men are now entering medical school. She stood for equality on all fronts and her vision to achieve good health for all epitomises what the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute is striving to achieve today.
  • Research culture… be part of the solution 22 January 2020 Last week Wellcome released findings from a significant piece of work undertaken to assess research culture. Through a combination of focus groups and an online questionnaire, Wellcome has gathered feedback from over 4,000 researchers in order to better understand the culture to enable targeted interventions.   • Infection and Immunity Early Career Researchers’ symposium 22 January 2020 The Infection and Immunity Research Network, supported by the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute, studies the immune system in health and illness and the cause, spread, treatment and prevention of infectious disease. On 10 January, the Network hosted its 5th Early Career Researchers’ (ECR) symposium, bringing together over 70 researchers with an interest in infection and immunity.

  • Research without Borders 2020 – calling all PGRs! 14 January 2020 Elizabeth Blackwell Institute is delighted to support Research without Borders 2020, the annual celebration of postgraduate research at the University of Bristol. Organised by the Bristol Doctoral College, in partnership with the University Research Institutes. Research without Borders is a celebration of the pioneering work being done by postgraduate researchers (PGRs) across all faculties and schools.
