Research without Borders 2020 – calling all PGRs!

Research without Borders 2020

14 January 2020

Elizabeth Blackwell Institute is delighted to support Research without Borders 2020, the annual celebration of postgraduate research at the University of Bristol. Organised by the Bristol Doctoral College, in partnership with the University Research Institutes. Research without Borders is a celebration of the pioneering work being done by postgraduate researchers (PGRs) across all faculties and schools.

This year's festival will take place in May and if you're a current PGR at the University of Bristol, this is your chance to get involved with an Elizabeth Blackwell Institute evening panel discussion.

This event is around the theme of breathing and is titled: ‘Question of life and breath; breathing, air, and mindfulness throughout the life span’. The panel discussion will be chaired by Havi Carel, joint lead of the Life of Breath research project and co-lead for Elizabeth Blackwell Institutes’ Medical Humanities research stand.

Breathing is crucial to everything we do and indeed to life itself. How we breathe and what we breathe bears a crucial importance to our health, wellbeing and emotional state. This session will cover all aspects and approaches to breathing, air and mindfulness.

How could your research be relevant to this discussion?

Whether you are a PGR in medicine, engineering, chemistry, physics, philosophy, social science or arts your research could provide an important angle on this topic. We are looking for contributions from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Even if your research may not seem relevant, think creatively about how it could form part of the discussion. This is an opportunity to hone your presentation and debating skills. Bespoke training will be offered to participants that are selected to take part.

The closing date for submitting your application is 9am on Thursday 6 February. Shortlisted applicants will be notified by Friday 21 February.
