Guidance for nominators

The Bristol Teaching Awards (BTA) begin with you, the nominator. Without your nominations we won't be able to celebrate the incredible work of staff and teams across the University. We receive hundreds of BTAs nominations and only twelve winners are selected each year. Here are our recommendations for how to make your nominations stand out:

1. Provide examples to show how the nominee meets the criteria

Shortlisting panels pay close attention to each award category's nomination criteria and their decisions are solely based on the evidence provided in nominations. Include as much evidence as possible to illustrate how the nominee meets some or ideally all of the criteria.

2. Be specific

If you think your nominee is worthy of a BTA tell us precisely why and what impact they've had. Very short nominations that include general statements tend to lack the detail needed for shortlisting.

3. Quality over quantity

The number of nominations an individual or team receives is given less weight than nominations which effectively illustrate the nominee’s impact in relation to the nomination criteria.

4. Check your nominee’s eligibility

Check you are nominating in the correct award category. You can nominate staff or teams in more than one award category if they are eligible.

Nomination principles

  • Nominations are anonymous
  • Self-nominations are not eligible
  • Winners from the past 3 years are not eligible for shortlisting
  • Duplicate nominations will be ignored
  • Read Guidance for nominators for more info
