25 February 2023, 4.00 PM - 25 February 2023, 9.00 PM

Department of Theatre, Vandyck Building, Cantocks Close, Bristol BS8 1UP

DO IT THEN. GO ON, DO IT showcases the cutting-edge work of two companies who emerged from the Department of Theatre in the 1990s and have been making innovative and thrilling performance for over 20 years.

Glynne Wickham, who founded the Department of Drama in 1947, proposed in a symposium in 1951 on "the responsibility of universities to the theatre", that plays must be performed in order to be fully understood. Throughout the 1990s the Department pioneered contemporary performance-making amongst its staff and students, resulting in Practice as Research in Performance (1998-2003), the first major five-year Arts and Humanities Research Board project to be hosted by the University. Building on this reputation for innovative workin 2006 the University’s Theatre Collection acquired the Live Art Archives, the largest national holdings of documents, ephemera and media about live art and contemporary performance

This day of talks and performances celebrates this legacy with a new work by Bodies in Flight, Unbox me!, introduced by Simon Jones, Emeritus Professor of Performance. At 7.00pm a presentation to mark the 25th anniversary of Uninvited Guests will be followed by a revival of the in-person performance of their popular show Love Letters Straight From The Heart.
