Why choose Anthropology and Archaeology?
Congratulations you on your offer to study with us!
We know you’ll be considering the best choice for you, so we wanted to highlight for you some of the many reasons why we think the University of Bristol is the best place to study Anthropology and Archaeology.
Research
We are highly regarded for our cutting-edge and impactful research.
Being taught by research-active experts in the field, you will be offered the most up to date anthropological training focusing on some of the most relevant and urgent contemporary issues and public debates. From drugs and stimulants in Africa, to children and their art in Amazonia, from museums in Asia, to transhumance mobility in Europe.
Transferrable Skills
As the only Anthropology department in the UK with a four-field approach, we offer a range of training opportunities in archaeology, social anthropology, evolutionary anthropology, and linguistic anthropology.
This approach hones your skills in project design, teamwork, verbal and visual communicational ability, and scientific data analysis. You will find this broad range of skills to be highly practical and in line with what the current job market desires.
Opportunities
You will have exciting opportunities for anthropological fieldwork and excavation as part of your course. Take advantage of our exceptional facilities, including our radiocarbon dating facility – one of only five in the UK, and work in partnership with Bristol’s many NGOs, museums, the media-tech sector, as well as different community organisations.
Anthropologists and archaeologists are in demand in a transforming economy and changing workplaces because we have a deep understanding of human practices and cultural connections – a perspective hugely important for a sustainable future.
