Parents and carers

Our information for parent and carers aims to help you navigate the open day and support your child/dependant while researching and deciding on their next steps.

Before the open day

  • Talk to your student about why they want to study a particular subject and what they are looking for in a university.
  • Encourage them to think about questions they might want to ask.
  • Bristol is a beautiful city and the University is right at the heart of it. If possible, plan some time to explore.
  • Have a look at our information for parents and carers.
  • Plan ahead to make sure you and your child/dependant get the most out of the open day. Find more information about planning your day.
  • Make sure you have received your open day booking confirmation email. You must bring your booking confirmation email with you to access the talks that you have booked. This can be on an electronic device, such as a smartphone, or you can bring a printed copy.

On the day

  • Encourage your child/dependant to ask questions for themselves.
  • Be supportive if they want to attend all or part of an open day on their own. This is a good chance for them to act independently and good practice for student life.
  • We are offering question and answer sessions for parents and carers at 10am, 11:30am and 1pm on a first come first served basis. These sessions will take place in the Carpenter Room of the Richmond Building (map reference 80) and will last for approximately half an hour.
  • Due to capacity limitations, some subject activities may not allow for a guest to attend. This is a great chance to explore the campus yourself, ask our stewards any questions, have a coffee at one of our campus cafes, or enjoy a bite to eat from a local street food stall in Royal Fort Gardens. These locations will be marked on the map you will receive on the day.
  • Our open days are busy. We try to minimise delays but please be prepared to queue in some instances.
