The Cratchley Scholarships in History are funded from a generous legacy gift in the will of the late Margaret Parsons (BA History 1941, Cert Ed 1942).

Margaret, her sister Gladys, and her brother William studied at Bristol. They wanted to provide financial support to undergraduate students at the University studying history in memory of their parents Edwin and Alice Cratchley.

Up to four awards of £3,500 are available in 2024/25.

The payments will be:

• £2,000 in the first year
• £750 in the second and third years.

We also offer up to £1,000 of funding support for employability opportunities, such as internships, placements, or summer research programmes.

Eligibility

You can apply if you:

• are a UK applicant for full-time undergraduate study
• have an offer (or are awaiting a decision) to study for an undergraduate History degree starting in 2024/25 excluding:
  • Ancient History
  • History of Art
• can demonstrate financial need.

When you apply for additional funding, you complete one application form but are considered for several scholarships and bursaries.

If you are successful, you will be enrolled on the Futures Scholarships programme.

You will be supported by the Futures Scholarship co-ordinator to access career guidance and advice on University opportunities for personal and professional development.

Recipients are expected to come to periodic meetings with relevant University team members.
