Supporting our global civic university

As a University of Sanctuary in a City of Sanctuary, we are part of a positive movement to welcome migrants into our community and promote a culture of inclusion. There is no place for violence, intimidation, Islamophobia or any form of racism in Bristol. Every member of our community deserves to feel safe and included.

In the last week we have witnessed distressing scenes unfold in cities across the UK, including in Bristol this weekend (03.08.2024). We recognise that these events are extremely unsettling and may leave some among us feeling vulnerable and unsafe. This does not reflect the values of the city, or our values as a University.

There is no place for violence and harassment towards any of the diverse communities that make up our city and our global University community. No one should feel unsettled, vulnerable, or unsafe in Bristol, and we are ready to provide support if you need it.

Staying safe

Security Services has created a Personal Safety webpage containing advice and guidance on staying safe in the city.

Accessing support

We understand that during the summer many of you will not be on campus, however, our Student Wellbeing Services remain available, as do our self-help resources.

Our Multifaith Chaplaincy is also available for faith-based or spiritual support during this time. There are locations for quiet prayer available across campus and the city.

Reporting unacceptable behaviour

Every member of our community should feel safe and included on our campuses.

If you have experienced any form of unacceptable behaviour, you can:
