My Experience of Professional Registration: Caroline

Role:

Deputy Technical Manager

Professional Registration Level:

Chartered Scientist (CSci)

Professional Body:

Institute of Science and Technology (IST)

Why I applied for professional registration:

For CPD and as part of my personal commitment to achieving better recognition for Technical staff as professionals

My overall experience:

Really positive; hard work but commensurate with level of qualification. Feels fantastic now it has been awarded.

My low points:

The review process was at times stressful as it can feel very critical and my expectation around how long the process would take was perhaps unrealistic.

My tops tips for others/what I learned from the experience:

  • It takes time - it is important to recognise the personal time commitments required to complete the application and the level of detail needed to provide clarity within the application.
  • Ask for advice from others as often they see achievements in tasks you wouldn’t consider including in your application.
  • Be prepared to really blow your own trumpet!
