Regional launch event of £125m investment in British Tennis

The LTA (Lawn Tennis Association), who work in partnership with our Sport, Exercise and Health Division, have recently launched their largest investment in the sport in their 129 year history. They will be investing £125m in the next 10 years to improve community tennis facilities improve community tennis facilities, with a focus on indoor courts and floodlights to extend player hours.
The regional launch of the ‘Transforming British Tennis Together’ initiative will be held at Coombe Dingle today [Thursday 13 July], with free coaching for local school children and some of the best junior players on our programme.
The LTA have awarded the University of Bristol £70,000 over 3 years to fund the role of Director of Tennis, who will help to make significant improvements to the University’s tennis provision for students, staff and the community. With more than 500 people accessing the Tennis Centre each week for recreational, coached and competitive tennis, Andy Trott, the Director of Tennis will be launching a range of new courses and programmes to start in the Autumn, with 300 new places to accommodate the growing community of tennis players at Coombe Dingle.
Junior tennis coaching is a vital part of University of Bristol Tennis, with approximately 275 children aged 4 to 18 coming for tennis lessons each week. The coaching team work with a number of talented young players who represent Avon, the South West and even GB. The University of Bristol Tennis Club is one of the largest student clubs in the South of England with approximately 190 members. They currently have 5 teams competing in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) leagues, in 2017-18 the ladies 1st team will be competing in the National Premier League, the highest level of University tennis in the UK.
