Olympic medal winning Alumni receive MBE's

23 January 2017

Congratulations to alumni Georgie Twigg and Hannah Mills, who were awarded MBEs in the Queen's New Year's Honours List.

Following a record-breaking year for Team GB, several Olympic athletes were recognised for their achievements, and we were delighted to learn that Georgie and Hannah were amongst them.

Hannah Mills won a gold medal in the women's 470 sailing with partner Saskia Clark in the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Georgie Twigg was part of the history-making hockey team who were unbeaten in the tournament. It was the first time the British team had reached an Olympic final and followed on from the bronze medal they won at London 2012.

Georgie and Hannah were all members of the Performance Squad of athletes at the University of Bristol, which helps talented student student-athletes with their sporting careers without compromising their academic progress.

Performance Sport Manager Matt Paine says: "We are all so very proud of Hannah and Georgie, it is the ultimate reward for all their hard work and determination, and a great inspiration to the current squad."
