Students to take part in Ignit10n 24 hour tennis marathon on Friday 17 March
13 March 2017
This year the University of Bristol Tennis club is completing a 24-hour tennis marathon for Bristol-based charity Above & Beyond, starting at 9am on Thursday the 16th of March and finishing on the 17th of March at 9am. Above & Beyond raises funds for Bristol’s nine central hospitals, investing in projects that make a real difference to patient care in our city.
The tennis marathon is part of a series of endurance events known as Ignit10n. Previous Ignit10n challenges have seen the rowing club collectively row the distance to the International Space Station, Lacrosse club spinning their way to Canada, as well as 10-hour marathon games of everything from Basketball to Hockey. This year Ignit10n is aiming to raise £14,000 to purchase a Sysmex Blood Analyser for patients of the Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre. This innovative piece of equipment allows point of care testing for certain blood results to give an instant result. It reduces delays for patients and helps reduce the time that staff have to leave the department to undertake the blood testing, therefore giving them more time to spend with patients.
The tennis club will be aiming to raise £1,000 with their 24-hour marathon. They need as many players as possible to participate in the event, so if you fancy taking part, please sign up using this Doodle Poll so that they can ensure that they have players to cover all time slots, with at least one doubles match running at all times. You can also just turn up and play on the day. There will also be an opportunity for people to try wheelchair tennis and visually impaired tennis from 1-4pm on another court.
If you are interested in taking part and raising money for this event, you can create a page on everydayhero and then join the tennis club page.
Not great at tennis? You can still donate to this worthy cause here.
