Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research Privacy Policy

About this notice 

The Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research is managed by the University of Bristol (the “University”, “us” or “we”). The University processes personal data and is a ‘data controller’ in relation to your personal data (registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under registration number Z6650067). In this Privacy Notice, in accordance with our responsibilities under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, we set out what information we collect, why we collect it, where we collect it from and with whom we will share it. We also outline your rights in relation to the information. We may make changes to this policy so please check from time to time for any updates.

We currently collect and process the following information:

  • Name
  • Organistion/Company
  • Email address

How we get the personal information and why we have it 

  • The Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research Mailing List Forms in MailChimp 
  • Printed out mailing list sign up forms 
  • Eventbrite and other ways of registering for one of our events 
  • Call for participation in one of our events
  • Research Innovation Fund/Seed corn applications forms 

How we use the data we collect from you

  • We will not share your data with anyone outside of the Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research and its governing bodies 
  • We will only add you to our mailing list if you have given your consent for us to do so 
  • We  will use the details we collect to keep you informed about our news, events and opportunities 
  • We may contact you about our events you have signed up to on Eventbrite
  • We will contact you about  funding opportunities you have applied for or expressed an interest in   
  • We use Mailchimp to send and receive emails (including newsletters). By submitting your information, you acknowledge that your information will be transferred to Mailchimp for processing. You can read Mailchimp’s privacy notice and other information about how the service operates here: https://mailchimp.com/legal/

Record retention

  • We will keep your contact details on our mailing list until you unsubscribe
  • We will keep abstract submissions and funding applications and contact you if we think you would be interested in further research collaborations or opportunities. These applications will be deleted upon request 
  • Once we have received your information, we will use appropriate procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access 

Third party software tools

  • Third party services collect certain technical information from your device including standard internet log information i.e. Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type and version, and page interaction information 
  • We use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our emails to our mailing list. See MailChimp privacy policy
  • We use a third-party provider, Eventbrite, to manage registration for and communications around our events. See Eventbrite privacy policy

Your rights

  • You have a right to withdraw your consent to be on our mailing list at any time by clicking 'Unsubscribe' on the bottom of Mail Chimp emails or emailing gambling-harms@bristol.ac.uk 
  • You have the right to have inaccurate data corrected. Please let us know if your data is inaccurate by emailing gambling-harms@bristol.ac.uk 
  • You have the right to access information held about you. Please email gambling-harms@bristol.ac.uk if you would like to request this
