How is a mathematical degree applied in the workplace? Students found out at a Maths at Work event held in the School of Mathematics on 25 October.
Partners at ClearBank, Dynisma, IBM, Malvern Panalytical, the Met Office and Optimal talked to students about how they use mathematics and data science in their day-to-day activities.
The event linked students with professional data scientists, analysts, data visualisation leads, computational scientists, innovations leads and development engineers from our partners in industry. Students were inspired to explore the undergraduate and graduate opportunities available to them.
The SPO collaborated on the event along with industry partners, student societies MATRIX and the Bristol Data Science Society and the School of Mathematics.

Further information
Maths at Work is a student and industrial partner engagement event run twice a year. The aim of the event is to demonstrate how mathematics is used in the workplace, connecting industrial partners with our students and academic community to explore engagement opportunities, internships, placements and careers.
This is a fantastic opportunity to discuss and demonstrate first-hand the application of maths, analytics and data science at work whilst connecting our students with employment opportunities you may have now and in the future. We are always looking for employers and industrial partners to take part in these events - if you are interested please get in touch with Alyce Griffith or contact the SPO.
