Industry Projects

Student industry project units give you an opportunity to provide an interesting and novel brief for a group of talented engineering students to work on during their degree.

Subject areas you can submit ideas for:-

Data Science and Financial Technology

Civil Engineering Design Projects

Software Engineering (Computer Science)

Please get in touch if you have project ideas for other areas of engineering.

What are the benefits?

Providing a project can have numerous benefits for you and your organisation. Some examples of why you may want to get involved include:

  • If you don't have the technical knowledge to complete your project
  • If you don't have the time to complete the project yourself
  • You need fresh ideas from fresh minds on a problem you have been facing
  • You want to provide an inspiring project for our students to support their develoment
  • You want to expose our students to your organisation through the kinds of projects you work on in the industry

What can you expect from student projects?

Whilst we have some very talented engineering students, we don't recommend you provide projects that are business critical for your organisation. Typically you can expect to get a working prototype or concept by the time of submission.

Industrial projects can provide our students opportunities to develop key employability skills vital to aid them post degree. It's a useful tool in helping you to raise your company profile, identify talent early on and support your future recruitment.

When should I submit a project proposal?

The timeline of the project units vary across departments depending on when the unit takes place.

  • Teaching Block 1: October - January
  • Teaching Block 2: February - May
  • Full year: October - May
  • Postgraduate summer projects: June - August

See information about individual units as to when you should submit an idea, however sending proposals during summer tends to be a good time for most departments.

Non Disclosure Agreements

Some of our project units will require you to complete a non disclosure agreement before any project work is undertaken. These agreements will cover things such as IP assignment, confidentiality and liability.
