Coronavirus (COVID-19) advice and guidance

During this uncertain time, everyone must pull together to do what we can to stop coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading. This includes social distancing, self-isolating and good hygiene practices, detailed in the University’s advice for staff.

We have introduced additional measures to safeguard our community by:

  • enabling increased working from home,
  • developing new health and safety guidance,
  • undertaking remote Occupational Health appointments,
  • postponing upcoming Sun Check pop-up events,
  • pausing ergonomic equipment loans.

Enabling increased working from home

Flexibility can have a positive impact for all. There are a range of flexible working practices at the University, and one example of this is working from home, either occasionally or with a formal home-working arrangement in place.

Being flexible and innovative in our ways of working also helps us to manage major challenges. Remote working arrangements can allow staff members who are self-isolating to continue their work from home, reducing the risk of infection to other members of our University community.

Developing new health and safety guidance

New resources have been developed to cover changes to health and safety processes and work practices as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19), including:

Remote Occupational Health appointments

To ensure safety during this time, Occupational Health team members are working from home and will not be undertaking any face-to-face appointments until further notice, including immunisation, blood test and health surveillance clinics.

All referral and pre-course assessment appointments will taken by phone or video call. The team are monitoring email accounts and endeavour to respond to queries in a timely manner.

Postponing upcoming Sun Check pop-up events

On 12 March, we held our first Sun Check pop-up event to raise awareness about the impact of sun exposure during outdoor work. For the purpose of social distancing, we postponed the remaining pop-up events we would have run in March. We'll share rescheduled dates once these have been confirmed.

Pausing ergonomic equipment loans

As part of a range of temporary measures to reduce the likelihood of transmitting coronavirus (COVID-19) through contamination, ergonomic equipment is not available to loan for the time being.

Members of staff who wish to use this service once it is available again can complete our loan form to reserve ergonomic equipment for a two-week trial period in the future.
