About The Bristol 5G Test Network
The Bristol 5G test network is led by the Smart Internet Lab at the University of Bristol and the Layered Realities Weekend is part of this research and testing.
Smart Internet Lab has secured funds to establish ‘5GUK Test Networks’ a national asset, funded by the UK Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) ‘5GUK Test Networks’. The Layered Realities weekend, 5G showcase brought together the University of Bristol’s Smart Internet Lab and Watershed, We The Curious, BT, Nokia, Zeetta, Cambridge Communications Systems, PureLiFi and BiO.
The Layered Realities Weekend, 5G Showcase was produced by Watershed on behalf of the Smart Internet Lab, University of Bristol.

At the Smart Internet Lab, the state of the art testbed enables us to demonstrate cutting-edge functionalities of 5G networks based on various academic and industry level research projects. This allows experimenters to thoroughly test these features on an actual testbed, distinct from emulators and simulators. Certainly, this provides them with the capability to push beyond conventional limits and unleash their creativity to define new use cases and develop technology.
