In November 2022, members of CenSoF's Moving Domain went on a field trip to one of their research sites, the Port of Dover. This trip focused on the Western docks; a part of the harbour less well known to those who only come to board the cross-Channel ferries berthed in the East. There, they discovered a place at the centre of many overlapping mobilities: exotic fruits and break-bulk construction materials arriving at the Cargo Terminal from around the world; freight lorries moving their goods into and across the UK and EU; holiday-makers stopping by on cruise ships to visit Dover Castle; and people crossing the Channel irregularly who are landed at the Western Jet Foil following rescue.
Next, they embark on the key task of tracing the trajectories, and the socio-digital regimes of control, of these goods and people on the move over the coming years - with a view to informing the research of the Centre.
