Permission to access records

In accordance with The Health Service (Care of Patient Information) Regulations and Section 251 of the NHS Act, it may be appropriate, where no other option is available, to access patient information for research purposes without individual consent. 

Note: This relates to personal data; data which is, or could be rendered, identifiable.

Permission to access records is granted by the office of the Secretary of State for Health, on the advice of the Confidentiality Advisory Group (CAG). CAG approval must be applied for via IRAS - by selecting Confidentiality Advisory Group (CAG) under question 4, answering question 4a as appropriate and answering Yes to question 11.
