Professor Ian Penton-Voak (Experimental Psychology) has just been awarded an EBI Senior Fellowship which is designed to support ‘discipline hopping’, where permanent members of academic staff take time out of their usual environment to work with collaborators to develop a new research direction in biomedical or health research.
Ian will study the relationship between social and environmental exposures in childhood and behavioural outcomes of societal importance later in life, such as teenage pregnancy, aggressive behaviour and risk taking.
This will include applying causal analysis techniques to test evolutionarily-derived hypotheses with a potential to reframe our understanding of issues with huge societal impact and inform interventions across a range of areas including public health policy. The fellowship will be based within the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit, University of Bristol.
