Centre for Academic Primary Care, University of Bristol

The Centre for Academic Primary Care (CAPC) is a leading centre for primary care research in the UK, and one of nine academic centres that form the NIHR School for Primary Care Research. Our aim is to improve primary healthcare through high quality research and teaching. We are part of the University of Bristol's School of Social and Community Medicine, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research and teaching in population health sciences.

NIHR CLAHRC West

NIHR CLAHRC West works with partner organisations to conduct applied health research and implement research evidence to improve health and healthcare across the West. 

NIHR CLAHRC North Thames

NIHR CLAHRC North Thames conducts ground-breaking research that will have a direct impact on the health of patients with long term conditions and on the health of the public. It brings together world-leading universities, the NHS, local authorities, patients, the public, industry and charities. CLAHRC North Thames is evaluating the effectiveness of the Identification and Referral to Improve Safety (IRIS) training programme to improve the healthcare response to domestic violence and abuse. CLAHRC North Thames is also, in conjunction with colleagues at CLAHRC West investigating whether IRIS can work in a variety of health care settings.

About IRIS

IRIS (Identification & Referral to Improve Safety),  is a general practice-based domestic violence and abuse (DVA) training support and referral programme that has been evaluated in a randomised controlled trial. Core areas of the programme are training and education, clinical enquiry, care pathways and an enhanced referral pathway for patients to a named advocate within a specialist domestic violence services. IRIS is a collaboration between primary care and third sector organisations specialising in DVA. It is commissioned in sites across England and Wales and cited extensively as a model of best practice.
