On the 21st October 2021, the Bristol Poverty Institute (BPI) and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) came together to deliver an important and timely webinar on In-Work Poverty and COVID-19.

The webinar focussed on the dynamics of poverty among those in employment and how this has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and involved analysis and discussion of conceptions of In-Work Poverty, furlough, Universal Credit, social (in)security, Minimum Income Standards, and structural inequalities.

The webinar featured three fantastic speakers:

  • Abigail Davis, Loughborough UniversityIn-Work Poverty and Social Insecurity
  • Rebecca McDonald, Joseph Rowntree Foundation - The rising tide of in-work poverty: will Covid-19 change its course?
These talks were followed by a Q&A session with the audience, which featured guest panellist Dr Ruth Webber, Loughborough University, and was chaired by Dr Lauren Winch, Manager of the BPI.
