QRI-informed Recruiter Training

leila training

Health professionals responsible for recruiting people to randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have a pivotal role in identifying those eligible and supporting their participation decision. However, recruitment to RCTs is often challenging and those recruiting have been shown to experience practical and emotional challenges in identifying, approaching and discussing trials with potential participants.

The QuinteT team have developed evidence-based training to expose and tackle clear obstacles and the emotional and intellectual challenges of recruiting to RCTs. We offer bespoke interactive workshops to those involved with RCT recruitment, with a focus on sharing experience and evidence-based suggestions to optimise informed consent and recruitment. Sessions can be centred on specific RCTs (at outset or part way through if experiencing difficulties), or clinical specialities. We have observational and randomised evidence that our training increases recruiters’ confidence and has a positive impact on recruitment practice. (Mills et al 2018; Parker et al 2022).

Forthcoming workshop / courses

We also deliver an annual QRI-informed 1-day course under the University of Bristol Medical School extensive programme of short courses - "Optimising Recruitment to Randomised Controlled Trials". The most recent course was held March 2022 and received positive feedback (see below). The next course will be delivered online on 19 April 2023 with registration opening Autumn 2022.

"This has been the best short course/training I have ever received from UOB. The talks were very interesting and engaging. There was a great blend of interaction and listening to presentations. The presenters/moderators made you feel like you could ask anything. Very good all round"
"I thoroughly enjoyed the whole course. There was not a module/presentation that I didn't find relevant and interesting.  Everything was well presented and easy to understand"
"Overall extremely helpful - made lots of notes and have left energised and enthusiastic about implementing some of the suggestions"
"I'm about to open a new study and I will now definitely cover equipoise in my SIV slides and also the questions that were raised in the role play session. I am also going to review my PIL and take on board the suggestions that the moderator had. I may even invest in some branding for the study!"
"The trial that I'm working on is due to start recruiting soon so I know that this course is going to be incredibly useful"
