Bristol Technology Assessment Group (TAG), hosted by Population Health Sciences in Bristol Medical School, was established in April 2022. Bristol TAG is one of several External Assessment Groups commissioned by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to produce reviews of healthcare technologies to support the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance committees and other policy makers.
We conduct independent reviews on the clinical and cost effectiveness of healthcare technologies (drugs, devices, interventional procedures, and diagnostic tests). We aim to provide rigorous, balanced, and timely reports, that support committees to make decisions to improve health outcomes for people using the NHS.
Bristol TAG is part of the Bristol Evidence synthesis, Appraisal and Modelling (BEAM) Centre, an internationally leading centre for evidence synthesis research. The BEAM Centre provides access to a wealth of knowledge and expertise in evidence synthesis across a broad range of topics and clinical areas. It hosts many NIHR infrastructures involved in evidence synthesis and includes all three types of NIHR funded evidence synthesis groups, Bristol ESG and the recently launched BESS Group and BUcKLES Groups.
Bristol TAG is also a member of InterTASC, one of the largest collaborations of health technology assessment bodies internationally, and for the next two years, 2025-2027, we are happy to be taking on the role of Chair of the InterTASC group.
