Academic clinical lecturer Angus McNair has recently submitted two papers on his work in collaboration with colleagues in the Bristol MRC Conduct-II hub. The first paper describes the development of a core outcome set for clinical trials in colorectal cancer surgery. This represents a standard set of outcomes to be measured in all trials in colorectal cancer surgery to facilitate cross study comparisons and aid meta-analysis. This work has been previously presented at the COMET initiative meeting in Rome.

The second paper relates to a similar topic, and describes a core information set to be discussed with patients before colorectal cancer surgery. This aims to provide baseline information to patients to catalyse further individual discussions. This work was previously presented at the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland meeting in Harrogate.

The development of an evidence based "core disclosure set" for patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery. McNair A, Whistance R, Macefield R, Brookes S, Blazeby JM
