Seed Project
BABEL builds on the previous work of the team, including on a Wellcome Trust-funded Seed project, which was awarded to Prof. Huxtable.
The Seed project explored how the best interests of incapacitated patients are interpreted and applied in judges’ rulings. The project explored a variety of rulings, including one concerning the cryopreservation of a teenager, and a range of decisions about the vaccination of children.
However, the main focus was on rulings about the treatment of patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness, in particular those in the minimally conscious state.
