Probing Galaxy Clusters with the XMM Cluster Survey

The XMM Cluster Survey (XCS) has analysed the entire XMM public archive with the primary aim of producing a large catalogue of X-ray selected clusters. To date, ~1000s of extended sources have been identified as clusters of galaxies, many of which have associated optical and X-ray information. In this talk, I will outline the combination of XCS data and clusters detected in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the Dark Energy Survey (DES) using the redMaPPer cluster detection routine. In particular, using four contiguous regions of XMM observations, I will detail the construction of a sample of X-ray and optically selected galaxy clusters in order to probe completeness of the two sample, and how selection impacts the derived science outputs (taking the form of galaxy cluster scaling relations). As a follow-up to this work, I will detail plans to investigate DES redMaPPer clusters with the eROSITA All-Sky Survey (eRASS), offering an unprecedented ~4000 deg2 area of overlap between the DES and eRASS. Finally, we outline how these results can impact our assumptions in preparation for the cluster samples constructed from the Legacy Survey of Space and Time.
