Understanding the early Universe with Simulations and AI

Recent JWST results are revealing a host of challenges to our leading paradigm of galaxy formation, and potentially even our cosmological model. Providing detailed and robust theoretical comparisons is now a top priority, to evaluate any tensions and help us understand the physics in these systems in the early Universe. In addition, upcoming wide field surveys from observatories such as Euclid and Roman will present unique new challenges for theorists in the large-volume regime. I'll present my recent work using cosmological simulations of galaxy evolution, coupled with artificial intelligence and novel statistical techniques, to tackle this problem.
