The Centre for Device Thermography and Reliability hosts the International WOCSDICE and EXMATEC Conferences

1 July 2021

The Centre for Device Thermography and Reliability has successfully hosted the international WOCSDICE and EXMATEC Conferences. More than 80 attendees from around the world listened to more than 50 talks over four days, starting with a plenary talk, the Hartnagel Lecture, on Ga2O3 next generation power electronics from Dr Higashiwaki, NICT, Japan, and talks ranging from wide bandgap semiconductor materials and devices such as GaN, diamond to two- dimensional materials such as graphene and their device application. Social events included presentations on Banksy and Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The Conference was hosted entirely over Zoom by the University of Bristol and the CDTR, having been postponed from 2020 due to COVID.

Professor Martin Kuball, Conference Chair and organiser said: “This is was a great international event hosted by Bristol and we were very pleased about the incredibly positive feedback we received from many attendees, and the extremely high quality of talks not only from world-leading scientists but also from many postgraduate students”.

In honour of Prof Hartnagel from the Technical University of Darmstadt, who started WOCSDICE in 1972, we introduced the Hartnagel Lecture; we also instigated two best papers awards: the best paper award went to Kathia Harrouche, a PhD student from the University of Lille, France, and the Highly commended paper was awarded to Karen Geens, a research engineer from IMEC in Belgium.
