Twitch vs tetanus

The amplitude of a muscle twitch is usually rather smaller than the amplitude of a tetanus. Given that the peak concentration of calcium is similar in each case, can you explain why the twitch in response to a single action potential results in less force than the tetanic force in response to a train of action potentials?
