Biography
Research interests
My research interests revolve around the ecology of microorganisms residing in both natural and host-associated environments. Microorganisms I study range from bacteria to archaea to fungi and protists. I use amplicon (16S, 18S and ITS) and shotgun metagenomic sequencing to characterize microbial communities and answer key ecological questions using a range of bioinformatics and statistical tools. Specific areas of my research include:
1. Spatial and temporal dynamics of microbial community
2. Determinants of microbial community structure
3. Network analysis of (interkingdom) microbial interactions
4. Alterations and the role of the human microbiome in disease
