Biography
After obtaining a degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Qatar in 2006, Sara took a position as a Lecturer for the College of Health Sciences, Kingdom of Bahrain. Alongside her colleagues, she was involved in the delivery, design and modification of various courses at the Biomedical Sciences Department including Human Anatomy and Physiology, Human Biology and Histology to Nursing and Allied Health students. Sara also worked as a part-time-counsellor where she was involved in the development, implementation and evaluation of counselling and guidance plans to Allied Health students.
Sara moved to the Scottish city “Dundee” in 2010 to peruse a degree in Human Anatomy. At the same time, as an anatomy demonstrator, she supported the delivery of dissection-based anatomy practical sessions for Medical and Science students. She also assisted in the preparation of anatomical prosections from formalin and Theil embalmed cadavers. After graduating from Dundee University with a PhD degree in Human Anatomy in 2014, Sara took a position as a Lecturer in Anatomy at Northumbria University, UK. She contributed to the teaching and delivery of various modules in the department of Applied Sciences, as well as the Keith B. Taylor Global Scholars Program of St. George’s International School of Medicine. Further to her teaching role, Sara was a member of NUwise group, a network established to support and develop the careers of female staff and PhD students working in STEMM at Northumbria University. She also took the role of Athena Swann Departmental representative.
Teaching
Sara have been involved in a variety of anatomy-related courses delivered to science, dental, undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. She as organized and delivered teaching activities utilizing various techniques and methods including body dissection, wet and plastinated prosections, ultrasound imaging, seminars, case discussions and plasticine modeling. Sara has also delivered didactic lectures in gross anatomy, embryology, histology and clinical imaging. She is also competent in creating digital learning opportunities as well as using technology in the classroom to enhance students learning experience.
Teaching roles and responsibilities include: unit organiser for Personal and Professional Development unit (ANAT10007), which is part of the Gateway Programme; co-unit organiser for Facets of Anatomy (ANAT30009), which is delivered to 3rd year applied anatomy students; element lead (pelvis and perineum) for Human Anatomy (ANAT20002) as well as element lead (ultrasound) for Visualising Anatomy through Imaging (ANAT20006) which are both delivered to 2nd year applied anatomy students; element lead for CBL-year 2 delivered to 2nd year medical students; Applied Anatomy Programme proleptic co-director.
