Samman's research is a mixed-method study, exploring the impacts of a five-week online mindfulness programme on pre-service and in-service teachers in Hong Kong, during the pandemic period. It aims to explore the impacts and experience of mindfulness practice on pre-service and in-service teachers. Five two-hour online sessions were run to 15 pre-service and in-service teachers, who were recruited online on a voluntary basis.
To understand participants’ subjective experience, weekly reflective journals and semi-structured interviews were analyzed, using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Standing on a pragmatic ground, pre-course and post-course questionnaires were administered to both the intervention group (N=15) and a control-waitlist group (N=20) to explore the impacts of mindfulness practice. Five-facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) was used as an instrument to explore changes on participant’s mindfulness, as a multi-facet psychological construct.
